I moved to Colorado almost a decade ago now but I think the mountains have always been my spiritual home. Maybe we're all just a little closer to God on a mountain top. The state is emblematic of all that is great about the West--at least through the prism of a hunter-gatherers eyes. In the layered habitats that start at the peaks and descend to the marshes all manner of critter is represented here. Mountain goats guard the crags, bighorn sheep occupy the more gentle slopes below, elk and moose roam still farther downslope...then comes the mule deer and black bear...and the plains are home to whitetails and pronghorn--and even elk and mule deer that didn't get the memo. And don't forget about the ducks, geese, and pheasants oh my. Did I mention trout? Yes, CO provides an avalanche of opportunities for hunters and anglers.
